Providing program management for a private-sector partnership with oversight of a donor coordination initiative:
Since 2013, GIA has supported the launch and execution of the Implants Access Program (IAP)—a consortium of donors and suppliers working to increase access to family planning products to all women. To address the gap in access to long-acting and reversible contraceptives (LARC), a group of public and private organizations collaborated to make Bayer HealthCare’s Jadelle® and MSD’s Implanon® / Implanon NXT® available to women in the world’s poorest countries. Other organizations involved in the program include: the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation; the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI); the governments of Norway, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States; and the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF), with support from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). The IAP supports the recommendations of the UN Commission on Life-Saving Commodities to increase the availability of quality products for women’s and children’s health. GIA supports the work with the consortium of collaborators to enhance access to the product through innovation in supply planning and coordination, forecasting, and quality service delivery programming, all of which promote expanded choice for all women.
